Annotated List of Suppliers

This list is a starting point and does not begin to include all the wonderful sources for good educational materials that are out there. We hope that you will consider this a dynamic document and send along information about producers of resources that can be added each year.

Be sure to ask about discounts for Resource Centers and new titles subscriptions with these producers.

Abingdon Press, one of the oldest religious publishing houses having begun as The United Methodist Publishing House in 1789, they produce very high caliber resources from authors of many denominationsfor Christian learners of all ages, including Upper Room Books.

Alban Institute offers a variety of leadership development workshops for laity and clergy at locations around the country and publishes books and periodicals on leadership and congregational dynamics. An Institutional Membership includes copies of all new releases, six copies of their periodical “Congregations”, 30% discount on their publications, and the ability to send up to six people a year to Alban seminars at the membership rate.

Augsburg Fortress is the publishing house of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. They produce curricula for all ages and publish books by authors Lutheran, Episcopal, and more. Good downloadable samples.

BlueFish TV is a source of videos for all ages on lots of timely topics.

Candle Press offers exquisite resources with a particular emphasis on families. Candle Press is the work of our own Helen Barron.

Christian Book Distributors (CBD)
A wide variety of books and videos from the evangelical perspective; little that is Episcopal or Catholic in regular catalog; Religious Book Club by CBD offers some of that material; good web presence; frequent catalogs; require credit card; telephone contact very helpful, e-mail less so. Excellent, speedy, delivery by USPS; good response to exchanges and returns

Church Publishing produces the official worship materials of the Episcopal Church, in both book and electronic formats.  Church Publishing Inc. now includes the imprints of Morehouse and Living the Good News. Numerous trade titles are available in the fields of liturgy, music, church history, theology, homiletics, pastoral concerns, and challenging contemporary issues.  Distribution of Churhs Publishing and Morehouse materials is now handled by Cokesbury.

Cokesbury
This is the retail arm of the United Methodist Publishing House. They have bookstores around the country and an online store. Offers all the Abingdon materials and more.

Creative Communications for the Parish, Inc
Offers a variety of books, videos, good seasonal material for all ages, stationery, and gifts; offers seasonal samples to organizations on mailing list; will bill; very pleasant on phone. Excellent delivery

CTA
A variety of Christian gifts for teachers and other volunteers in the church, mostly oriented towards book marks, magnets, pens, etc; some stuff for children; many seasonal gifts; now do personalization of some items; pleasant on phone; will bill; offer update letter when have e-mail address. Eerdmans Publishing Company
An independent publishing house offering books for all readers.

The Episcopal Media Center specializes in providing video and audio resources for parishes and individuals. Materials provided by EMC include educational videos, audio books and television spots foruse in local markets. It also provides consulting services in communication for parishes and dioceses.  The Episcopal Media Center was founded in 1945 and was known previously as the Episcopal Radio-TV Foundation.

Forward Movement Publications produces the pamphlets found in most church tract racks. Since 1935 they have produced materials to help people in their life and work. Forward Movement is best known for the quarterly magazine Forward Day by Day, but they also produce interesting, informative, inexpensive books and pamphlets. Forward Movement is owned by the Episcopal Church but operates under an independent board.

Harcourt Religion Publishers part of Harcourt Press produces some wonderful children’s books.

In Celebration (McGraw Hill Children’s Publishing)
Provides stickers, borders, posters, workbooks and other resources for the classroom on a Christian theme; competitive prices; payment with order; good delivery

Institute for Peace and Justice/Families Against Violence
A group which seeks to teach the ways of non-violence through the Pledge for Nonviolence. Have developed resources for use in a variety of situations-school, home, organizations, etc. They seek annual
memberships, and raise additional money by the sale of resources.

LeaderResources is an Episcopal publishing and consulting organization that develops education and training materials. Their primary resource is the Journey to Adulthood, a youth ministry program. In addition to Christian formation materials they produce lay ministry and leadership development resources distributed on reproducible masters and computer disk. LeaderResources is the ministry of the Rev. Linda L. Grenz.

Paraclete Press offers books, music, and DVDs.

The Printery House
Christian greeting cards for all occasions; icons, pictures, and gifts; have recently added some books and music CD’s; jewelry and gifts from Terra Sancta Guild; offers personalization of cards and stationary. Good delivery.

St. Anthony Messenger Press
Includes Franciscan Communications and Teleketics videos.

Search Institute
Provides materials growing out of their 40 Developmental Assets information for promoting healthy children, youth, and communities. Great leadership materials.

Vibrant Faith Ministries (was Church and Family Institute)
Books, conferences, and training about parenting and raising children; works with a variety of other groups to encourage Christian parenting. Formerly on the campus of Augsburg College, the Institute has grown and flourished and is now in new quarters. Materials are excellent value for cost, which is generally very modest.

Vision Video offers short videos for all ages, some on specifically religious topics and some more general.

Westminster John Knox
The Presbyterian Publishing House which produces some excellent books and curriculum resources for all denominations.
